डाकू अंगुलिमाल और महात्मा बुद्ध

दोस्तों, मगध राज्य में एक सोनापुर नाम का गाँव था। उस गाँव के लोग शाम होते ही अपने घरों में आ जाते थे। और सुबह होने से पहले कोई कोई भी घर के बाहर कदम भी नहीं रखता था। इसका कारण डाकू अंगुलीमाल था।

डाकू अंगुलीमाल मगध के जंगलों की गुफा में रहता था। वह लोगों को लूटता था और जान से भी मार देता था। लोगों को डराने के लिए वह जिसे भी मारता उसकी एक ऊँगली काट लेता और उन उँगलियों की माला बनाकर पहनता। इसलिए उसका नाम अंगुलिमाल पड़ा। गाँव के सभी लोग परेशान थे कैसे इस डाकू के आतंक से छुटकारा मिले।

एक दिन गौतम बुद्ध उस गाँव में आये। गाँव के लोग उनकी आवभगत करने लगे। गौतम बुद्ध ने देखा कि गाँव के लोगों में किसी बात को लेकर देहशत फैली है।

तब गौतम बुद्ध ने गाँव वालों से इसका कारण पूछा- ये सुनते ही गाँव वालों ने अंगुलिमाल के आतंक का पूरा किस्सा उन्हें सुनाया।

अगले ही दिन गौतम बुद्ध जंगल की तरफ निकल गये, गाँव वालों ने उन्हें बहुत रोका पर वो नहीं माने। बुद्ध को आते देख अंगुलिमाल हाथों में तलवार लेकर खड़ा हो गया, पर बुद्ध उसकी गुफा के सामने से निकल गए उन्होंने पलटकर भी नहीं देखा। अंगुलिमाल उनके पीछे दौड़ा, पर दिव्य प्रभाव के कारण वो बुद्ध को पकड़ नहीं पा रहा था।थक हार कर उसने कहा- “रुको”बुद्ध रुक गए और मुस्कुराकर बोले- मैं तो कबका रुक गया पर तुम कब ये हिंसा रोकोगे।

अंगुलिमाल ने कहा- सन्यासी तुम्हें मुझसे डर नहीं लगता। सारा मगध मुझसे डरता है। तुम्हारे पास जो भी माल है निकाल दो वरना, जान से हाथ धो बैठोगे। मैं इस राज्य का सबसे शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति हूँ।

बुद्ध जरा भी नहीं घबराये और बोले- मैं ये कैसे मान लूँ कि तुम ही इस राज्य के सबसे शक्तिशाली इन्सान हो। तुम्हे ये साबित करके दिखाना होगा।

अंगुलिमाल बोला बताओ- “कैसे साबित करना होगा?”।

बुद्ध ने कहा- “तुम उस पेड़ से दस पत्तियां तोड़ कर लाओ”।

अंगुलिमाल ने कहा- बस इतनी सी बात, “मैं तो पूरा पेड़ उखाड़ सकता हूँ”।

अंगुलिमाल ने दस पत्तियां तोड़कर ला दीं।

बुद्ध ने कहा- अब इन पत्तियों को वापस पेड़ पर जाकर लगा दो।

अंगुलिमाल ने हैरान होकर कहा - टूटे हुए पत्ते कहीं वापस लगते हैं क्या ?

तो बुद्ध बोले – जब तुम इतनी छोटी सी चीज़ को वापस नहीं जोड़ सकते तो तुम सबसे शक्तिशाली कैसे हुए ?

यदि तुम किसी चीज़ को जोड़ नहीं सकते तो कम से कम उसे तोड़ो मत, यदि किसी को जीवन नहीं दे सकते तो उसे म्रत्यु देने का भी तुम्हे कोई अधिकार नहीं है।

ये सुनकर अंगुलीमाल को अपनी गलती का एहसास हो गया और वह बुद्ध का शिष्य बन गया और उसी गाँव में रहकर लोगों की सेवा करने लगा।

आगे चलकर यही अंगुलिमाल बहुत बड़ा सन्यासी बना और अहिंसका के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ।

Outlaw Angulimal and Mahatma Buddha

Friends, there was a village named Sonapur in Magadha state. People of that village used to come to their homes as soon as evening. And no one even stepped outside the house before dawn. The reason for this was the robber knuckle.

The robber lived in the forest cave of Magadha. He used to rob people and kill them too. To scare people, he would cut a finger of whomever he killed and wear a garland of those fingers. Hence his name was Angulimal. All the people of the village were worried how to get rid of the terror of this dacoit.

One day Gautam Buddha came to that village. The people of the village started paying their respects. Gautam Buddha saw that there was widespread panic among the people of the village.

Then Gautam Buddha asked the villagers the reason for this - on hearing this, the villagers narrated a full anecdote of Angulimal's terror to them.

The very next day Gautam Buddha left for the forest, the villagers stopped him a lot but he did not listen. Seeing the Buddha coming, Angulimal stood up with a sword in his hands, but Buddha did not even look back when he came out of the front of his cave. Angulimal ran after them, but due to divine influence he could not catch the Buddha.

Exhausted, he said- "Stop" Buddha stopped and smiled and said - I have stopped but when will you stop this violence.

Angulimal said- Sannyasi, you are not afraid of me. The whole Magadha is afraid of me. Remove whatever goods you have, or else you will lose your life. I am the most powerful person of this state.

Buddha did not panic at all and said - how can I believe that you are the most powerful human being in this state. You have to prove it.

Angulimal said - "How to prove it?".

Buddha said- "You bring ten leaves from that tree."

Angulimal said - just such a thing, "I can uproot the whole tree".

Angulimal broke ten leaves.

Buddha said- Now put these leaves back on the tree.

Angulimal asked in astonishment- Do the broken leaves come back somewhere?
